Sprinkler System

Monday, July 28, 2014

The grass will be cut today and the irrigation system will be turned off this evening in preparation for 2 weed control applications scheduled for TOMORROW. Tuesday the 29th.

The herbicides will be applied individually and by hand and are target specific; the first applied only to eliminate the “Nutsedge” which looks like shiny tall green grass like spikes but is not a grass and the second covers weeds and clover. The chemical does not affect the grass but will turn the Nutsedge yellow and requires a second treatment 30 days later.

It is recommended that pets avoid the grassy areas that have been treated for one day.

The irrigation will be re-activated Friday night and return to the current 4 times per week schedule operating from around midnight until 6am when all zones complete their cycle.

Also, our irrigation contractor has just completed a scheduled mid-summer review and made adjustments where necessary after test running all of the watering zones. As we head into the “dog days” of high heat and usually diminishing rain the system has been increased to operate from 3 days to 4 days per week and each zone will run for 20 minutes up from 15 minutes which means that watering will start around midnight and continue until 6am in order to complete the longer cycles.

Again, we ask all residents to comply with our request to not place the recycling bins, trash or cartons on the grass along the curb line on Tuesday evening because these items prevent the watering heads from popping up. Please place all those items for collection on the asphalt.
